It’s been a while since we’ve updated you on our little world here in Freiburg. We’re starting to get into some routines, but getting some time online is not one of them. We’re still waiting for our phone and internet to be activated for our house. Waiting seems to be a typical theme for us here in Deutschland.
For instance, this week I attempted to buy cell phones for Sadee and I. Ordinarily, the members of the STINT team use pre-paid phones that you load minutes onto each month. This works fine…if you don’t use all of your minutes. In Germany, the culture is one in which many people don’t use their cell phones to talk much, but instead send text messages back and forth. For Sadee and I, however, we spent almost 60 Euro (take 60 times 1.26 to get the American amount) during the first 2 weeks here. So, in the interest in eating and paying rent, we decided to get a cell phone (or handy) contract. THE POINT IS…it took me more paper work and time to get my cell phone than to get our Visas which give us the “privelege/right” to be here in Germany for more than a few weeks at a time. It’s crazy how some systems work, huh?
Pictures Soon!!!
Soon, we’ll update the pictures section with picture of our team and of Germany. Keep checking back!!!
Tonight we celebrated the birthday of one of our team-mates: Anzee. It’s crazy to think that just over 2 years ago, Anselm (AKA Anzee…because Americans can’t pronounce his name quite right) was not a Christian. Now, Anzee is serving with Campus Crusade as an intern on our staff team!!!! As we celebrated as a team, it was fun to hear more of his story and the challenges that he is facing as a German Christian serving in full-time ministry. Will you take a second to pray for Anzee? Please pray that:
- Anzee will experience God in amazing ways during this upcoming year
- Our team will love Anzee well and know how to care for him accross cultural barriers
Side Note
We’ve been trying to get our phone and internet working…but the process for Americans in Germany is slow. We’d love to email and chat on the phone with many of you, but our times to use the internet is pretty sporadic. Hopefully we’ll have our service set up by next week and we’ll be able to stay in better touch.
ALSO…please keep signing the guestbook!!! It’s super encouraging and a great way for us to hear from you!!!!
We’ve finally made it to Germany!!! We’ve only been here a few days and we feel really tired and worn out already. Yesterday was our first day of language school. We joined a class that had already met for 3 days…so we were a little behind. Also, we’ve been busy trying to take care of registering with the city, getting bank accounts, setting up phone and internet, and getting our visas. At this point, we still don’t have a phone or internet and it’s been reallz hard to not have contact or touches with friends and family. In fact, we’re writing this from an internet cafe…the rates are crazy so we have to keep it short.
Please keep praying for us!!! It was so encouraging to see the guestbook and read that many of you have already thought of us. If you have a moment, please pray for:
- our energy in adjusting to a new culture
- our team and for unity and intimacy among us
- our walks with God…that we would trust His call to bring us to Freiburg
Sadee wanted me to add that it has actually been really difficult so far. Please, please, please keep praying for us!!! We know that it will get better, the adjustment has just been much harder than we were expecting.
