And yet another cultural experience….

God has given us some really fun opportunities the past couple of days. I wanted to tell you about them!

So…..there’s this family that works with CCC’s sports ministry, Athletes In Action, that lives pretty close to Freiburg. Last night we had dinner with this guy, Christian. He wanted to talk with us about ways we can partner with him to minister to college and professional athletes in Freiburg.

We had so much fun with this guy! He was soooooo like the AIA staff guys that we know from the States! He’s german, and his wife is french, but they’ve lived in the States…..and I think he’s more American than we are! All on his own he brought up boneless buffalo wings and Cracker Barrel - 2 of my all-time faves and for sure things that I have desperately missed this year!!!!

He also loves American college sports. He has this North American sports channel at his house. He’s totally been watching March Madness. We were able to see some games last month, but haven’t been able to get any lately! So, he invited us to come to his house last night and watch some games! His family was out of town, so it was he, Aaron, and I watching American basketball games! (Of course, before the games started there was “German Idol” and it’s exactly what you think it is! And some big boxing match…..) I got to take a bath - which was wonderful!!!! And, the Buckeyes won!!!! We love our friend Joel Niese, therefore we love the Buckeyes!!!! (Except when they’re playing IU!) Oh, and keep in mind that the game started around midnight :)
It was really sweet of God to give us that mini-retreat! What fun it was to be in a real German house - it was beautiful!

(On a side note…..there was some horse riding school across the street from where he lives. There was a gigantic tee-pee. Germans are facinated with Native Americans. They love tee-pees. Interesting…..)

Then today, God surprised us again! Freiburg was overtaken today with a marathon! There were over 11,000 people running through the streets of Freiburg. We knew one person in the race. We didn’t know how we would ever find her!

After church we were walking home. We walked towards where the race was. The whole town was marked off, and there were parties everywhere! Any exuse for a beer stand in Germany is a good exuse! There were bands everywhere too - and most of them played Amercian music! Fun!

We stood along the street and cheered for people as they ran by. And then we saw our friend, Katie! We were so excited to be able to cheer for her! I had just prayed we’d get to see her and then, there she was!

We were able to go to several different spots to catch her. Each time we arrived at the next spot right in time. It was amazing. I mean, we didn’t really know where we were going….we had to walk, run, take street cars…..And I would pray that God would give us the opportunity to encourage Katie, and then, there she was!!!!! Blazing by cuz she was so fast! It was sooooooo fun!

This will be one of my favorite weekends here because of last night and today…..and none of it was planned. God is so faithful to us! He is a good and personal God! What a way to start off such a special week…And in Europe, it seems like everyday is an adventure with Him! :)
